This complex renovation project required that all students remain on site for the full duration of the project. We developed a swing space concept that reduced the amount of temporary modular classrooms and utilized permanent improvements to an unused portion of the building. The project was sequenced into four phases of construction, including replacement of all plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems. The challenge was to maintain the existing systems for use until spaces were vacated for construction, and also complete and operate the new systems for use by the renovated spaces. Our team developed a concept of a new exterior central mechanical plant that allowed the old plant to remain in operation while the new plant was built. This greatly simplified the logistics of building the new systems, and ensured the existing spaces remained in service during construction.
