Located on a major seaport in China, this project was a prototype for new mode of rehabilitative treatment and housing for China's aging adults, designed to promote a sense of connection to landscape and natural light so as to aid health, healing, and community interest. Due to the density of the buildings on the site, the design was subdivided into individual programmatic zones, each reflective of the various stages of healing. The goal of the design team was to create an identity for assisted living units separate from the hospital while maintaining a connection to the medical facilities.
