Our team designed two annex buildings to accommodate the US EPA’s staff. The design of the additions to the Andrew W. Breidenbach Environmental Research Center included balancing operations of a fully occupied building with completely new construction. The program called for office space for fifty-three staff members including conference rooms, data storage and computer rooms, high-density file storage and centralized security areas including the Home Land Security Offices. The offices are clustered around a three story atrium. The addition now serves as the employee’s main entrance into the complex and increased the overall size of the facility by 78,000 SF.
