This project was a renovation of an historic 1879 Italianate townhouse, located in the Pendleton Arts District. Although the building previously served as a rooming house and had fallen into serious disrepair, many of the original details and elements still remained intact and were able to be restored to their former glory. These elements includes the original railing and balustrade at the main staircase, twelve fireplaces, four-panel hardwood doors with transoms, and the original longleaf pine hardwood floors. The renovation was a delicate balance between the existing historic elements and the owner’s desire for the clean lines of a modern loft. With a tight budget in mind, many of the design elements were salvaged, vintage, or owner-fabricated.
