Krohn Conservatory Master Plan and Restoration

Elevar Design Group provided conceptual design services for a Master Plan to expand and renovate one of the City’s most prominent landmarks, Krohn Conservatory. The Master Plan strategized programs for rehabilitation, renovations and future growth. This masterplan won a 2000 AIA Design Award. Our team also rehabilitated structural and glazing components of the conservatory. These phased renovation projects were done at the Palm House, Show House, Cactus House, Tropical House, and Orchid House.

Elevar performed extensive field investigations and testing of all the controls, structural and glazing components of the Historic 1930’s era Art-Deco Krohn Conservatory. There was structural repair and epoxy painting of all steel structural members, and all of the original plate glass was replaced with high strength laminated safety glass. Catwalks and access points were added to the structure, and ADA accessibility was provided for the Tropical House. A new Orchid House was added to the project with upgraded environmental controls, as well as an expanded 2 story gift shop, designed and installed within the existing structure.
