Elevar has been working with the North College Hill City School District on numerous renovation and ongoing maintenance projects for more than 25 years. Typical projects have included: upgrades to classrooms, labs, doors and hardware replacement, flooring, windows, roofs, locker rooms, toilet rooms, exterior facades, site and parking lots, and ADA compliance improvements. In addition, Elevar provided countless volunteer efforts on community engagement and master planning services and assisted the District in passage of a bond levy in November 2007. The Elevar team completed the design and construction of a new elementary school, new middle school and a new high school.

North College Hill City Schools is an urban district with the academic buildings forming the core of this tight-knit community. As part of the neighborhood revitalization, all facilities have been consolidated within one city block; the physical education facilities have been consolidated within one city block; the physical education facilities form the buffer between the elementary, middle and high schools. Taking the opportunity afforded by new construction, multi-user physical education and practice fields enable the existing high school stadium and competition gymnasium to tightly connect the school physical education curriculum to adjacent facilities.

Elevar leveraged North College Hill’s energy efficiency measures into additional funding from the local utility company Duke Energy’s Smart Saver custom incentive program. By demonstrating both peak electric demand reduction and total electric usage reduction the District was able to recoup more than $170,000 for both schools. Our team has also worked in conjunction with the City of North College Hill to prepare a Safe Routes to School package to fund engineering, enforcement and education improvements throughout the community. Funding areas focused on sidewalk, crossing and signal upgrades as well as education pieces to promote safe active transportation to and from the new school campus.
